Okay, so do I really want to go to a JMU-sponsored event, cleverly named "Crabfest 2003"?
Yeah, that's what I thought. Besides, it's $25 a head.

On top of this, I've begun to read my textbooks. And what do I hit on first, but the idea that "Jack and the Beanstalk" is a literary adaptation of Freud's theory of Oedipal psychosexual development.
I'm going to go beat my head against my diploma.

Dear Students,
On August 27, 2003, we will be having our yearly orientation for those of you about to begin your second field placement. At this meeting, we are going to tell you all the exact same crap we told you last year because we have assumed that over the summer you have forgotten the basics of an internship.
Please be sure to arrive exactly on time. If you do not hear your name called at the very beginning, no one will be able to help link you with your field liaison. Although most of us have graduate or doctoral degrees, the only person with knowledge on how to compile a master list via photocopying is in Richmond.
We look forward to wasting your time on August 27th. If you have any questions, please call someone else who might have a clue what the hell is going on.
Sincerely,
The Administration

My first day of school began with a great deal of weeping and the addition of a very large sum of money to my credit card balance. Six freaking books for this child/adolescent course and four for art therapy. I love how I'm literally paying the price for having excelled academically.
Damn, that sounded arrogant. Oh, well.
First class this afternoon, art therapy. I've heard that the professor is absolutely brilliant, so here's to hoping that the rumors are true.

Speaking of Shania Twain, guess who's going with Justinne and Andrew to see her LIVE IN CONCERT at the MCI Center in October?
(Hint: It might be me.)
And up, up, up,
Can only go up from here!
Up, up, up!
Up where the clouds gonna clear!
Up, up, up!
There's no way but up from here! ( 6:50 PM ) Meghan

Woohoo! Shania Twain live from Chicago and random phone calls live from New York. I couldn't not be feeling better :) Special props to the (possibly straight) male back-up singers who sang the following Shania lyrics with straight faces:
Any man of mine better walk the line, better show me a teasin' squeezin' pleasin' kinda time...
And you know, any artist who can incorporate the word "prerogative" into her song lyrics has earned my musically-inclined respect.

After several attempts, I was finally all set to go horseback riding for the first time today--and who cancels it this week? The horse.
Sigh. I think I deserve that one.
At least I'll have something to look forward to in a couple of weeks. Which will hopefully keep me sane through my first 40-hour work week of the summer, doing a whole lot of binder and phone-related nothing. Not to mention starting classes next Monday.
Oh, how I want to go hide.
I hear the wind across the plain,
A sound so strong that calls my name.
It's wild like the river; it's warm like the sun
Yeah it's here - this is where I belong. ( 3:02 PM ) Meghan

Yesterday morning, a young woman walked out into the ocean and dove in, pajamas and all, to wash away her tears with the rest of the salt in the sea. It felt like rare living.
And I wonder, just what would motivate such a woman to take at least one more chance like that?

One year, two days, and an afternoon ago I was bawling my fool eyes out. It's a pity that with all the practice I've had, I'm still not much better with saying goodbye.
Lord, I wonder if I'll ever change my ways.
