A week ago tonight, I was in New York City with Justinne and Andrew, jump-starting the Christmas season. Everything about it was brilliant...on Friday, J and I headed down to Long Beach to see her school (closed) and watch the waves (cold). Then an evening of sushi and the perfect, heartwarming holiday flick and we were in for the night.
Saturday, having never before run so fast along train tracks in my life, we miraculously caught the Long Island Railroad into Manhattan. We almost walked headfirst into the tree at Rockefeller Center as we exited the subway. But we skillfully maneuvered around its piney goodness to see Santa at Macy's, a two-story Victoria's Secret, St. Patrick's Cathedral, and an unexpected light show at Saks 5th Avenue. Even the Empire State Building was shaded in red and green.
Justinne soon had to stop my touristy gawking and we headed to a pho (haha) Asian noodle house for dinner and casual pre-gaming. Then we met Andrew and his cousin Dan at the Culture Club for dancing and even more expensive drinks (I had the Milli Vanilli). Finally a club that played real 80s all night! And thus, we rocked like we had never rocked before. And as a climactic end to a most excellent evening, we had our picture taken with a Boy George impersonator. Dude.
Sunday we mostly chilled out. There was sleeping in (after a 4am arrival home), Mass with the newly-ordained Father Darius, and a nice dinner from Andrew's mom. But we brought things to a close like we always do, leaving no subject un-gossiped with Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights heating up the background.
